Our Annual Meeting for 2016 took place on Thursday, March 17th with W.I. Adviser Jane Mills on hand to assist with the evening’s business.
Treasurer Stef Russell was pleased to present a financial statement for the year which showed us to be in good financial health, having been able to earmark £150 to set aside towards a bursary to assist one of our members to attend Denman College for the first time in 2017. She reminded us that we are, however, still very dependent on fund-raising to ensure that our bank balance remains in sound fettle, and the summer stall in Causewayhead remains of paramount importance.
Our Secretary for the past three years, Val Stevens, presented the Committee’s Report, reflecting on a successful year in which we have enjoyed an excellent variety of speakers as well as meetings of the Book Group and Luncheon Club.
President Liz Preston then gave her address in which she too recalled the highlights of the past twelve months and signalled her regret at having to stand down as President owing to family circumstances. She thanked the Committee and all members for their fellowship and support throughout what had been a very enjoyable year.
In the election which followed, Val Stevens was elected as President. Jenny Fitton will act as Vice-President, Stef Russell continues as Treasurer and Liz Anderson will become our new Secretary. The remaining members of the Committee are Jean Grey, Joan Hutchings, Liz Preston and Nina Sully.
A presentation of flowers was made to Liz and Val for their sterling work in 2015 – 2016, and to Jane for keeping us all on the right track through the Annual Meeting.
We were then able to get down to the serious business of celebrating our eighth birthday with chocolate cake and a welcome mug of tea!
