Foraging for food

Most of us have engaged in a spot of foraging – picking blackberries,  sloes or elderberries from the hedgerows, or perhaps mushrooms from the woods.

20140417_193813But our speaker for April, Bill Johnson, has made foraging into both an art and a profession, collecting flowers, herbs and seaweeds from the shores of West Penwith for some of the very best local restaurants. Originally a fisherman, Bill has made what started as a hobby into a profession, and he spoke knowledgeably about a wide range of plants that are familiar to all of us, though possibly not as foodstuffs before.
